Legend tells of Kaldi, the goat herder who discovered the energizing effects of coffee cherries in the highlands of Kaffa. Today, that discovery forms the basis of Ethiopia's most beloved social ritual. The coffee ceremony is a slow, graceful process that begins with the roasting of green beans over coal.
As the aroma fills the room, the beans are ground and brewed in a traditional clay pot called a 'jebena'. Served in three rounds Abol, Tona, and Baraka the coffee is accompanied by popcorn and frankincense, creating a space for conversation, reconciliation, and community.
Taste the richness of Kaffa at its source on our custom Ethiopia coffee tours through the origin plantations of the west.
